Ray Price Was The Cause Of Contemporary Country Music!

Ray Price who is now 86 and still touring is our featured artist on the “Keepin It Kountry” segment of the daybreak show and “For The Good Times” went to #1 on this day in 1970. When Ray was here recently I accused him of starting the trend of contemporary country because he was the first to put a full orchestra on his records starting with “For The Good Times’ and him said, “don’t blame that on me.” Think about it though before Ray recorded that song country was country and after his success with “For The Good Time” other followed and before long we had Olivia Newton John and John Denver taking home CMA Awards and real country music took a back seat to the new “contemporary” sound and country music still suffers from the effects today.
